“Rare is the artist who could claim to have dived as deep into the unconscious and survived the journey...” — Discoveries in American Art.

Provenance: This intimate, late-night drawing by artist Tom Blodgett (1940–2012) was a gift to his close friend and fellow artist, M. Jay Lindsay (1943–2015). The two studied painting together from 1964 to 1966 at the University of Oregon, in Eugene. They shared a striking kinship; both artists strongly objected to the Vietnam War and ultimately chose to live and work in remote forest cabins —Blodgett in Oregon and Lindsay in New York.

Authenticated by Peter Hastings Falk | Blodgett Estate Collection for the estate of M. Jay Lindsay. It is similar to another in Tom Blodgett’s Ghostland Series, entitled "Open Window on a Windy Night," and representative of his post-war Pacific Northwest surrealist works.
